Is Chiropractic Care Safe During Pregnancy?
Chiropractic care through pregnancy is not only safe, it is essential. It is especially important for the pregnant mother. Her systems and organs are now providing for two and their optimal
function is critical for the baby's healthy development. The mother's spine and pelvis undergo many changes to compensate for the growing baby and the risk of interference to her nervous system is increased. Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy works to remove interference to the nervous system function providing greater health potential for both the mother and baby.
How can a mother go through labor more comfortably?
An AMA study revealed that “pregnant women who received Chiropractic adjustments in their third trimester were able to carry to term and deliver children with more comfort”.
A second medical study compared pregnancy and childbirth at two neighboring hospitals. It was found that when women received Chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy that “the need for painkillers during delivery was reduced by half.”
Wouldn’t most mothers be interested in a shorter labor time?
We are not talking about taking drugs, or epidurals or even scheduling a C-section. We are talking about a shorter natural birth.
A 1991 study followed the pregnancies of women who had Chiropractic care from at least the tenth week through labor and delivery. The Chiropractic group was compared to a control group who didn't receive Chiropractic care.
What does this all mean? A mother who has a properly functioning body will give her child the best chance for a normal, healthy birth. Chiropractic care can decrease or eliminate the need for drugs and shorten labor times resulting in safer births with less complications.
